San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino fell to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 7-5 on Friday night in front of 6,318 fans at San Manuel Stadium. The clubs slogged through a 3-hour 53-minute game that saw the clubs combine for 23 this, 11 walks and 30 strikeouts.
San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino fell to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 7-5 on Friday night in front of 6,318 fans at San Manuel Stadium. The clubs slogged through a 3-hour 53-minute game that saw the clubs combine for 23 this, 11 walks and 30 strikeouts.
The Quakes (75-53, 34-26) got pair in the first against Sixers starter Aaron Hernandez (1-4) when Devin Mann notched a RBI triple and then scored on Miguel Vargas' double. The 66ers (51-78, 25-35) answered with a run in the bottom of the first on Spencer Griffin's RBI single. Inland Empire tied the game in the second and took a 3-2 lead in the third when Orlando Martinez doubled to right and eventually scored on Zane Gurwitz' sac fly. The lead did not last long as the Quakes scored three times in the fourth getting a run on an error, sac fly from Tre Todd and RBI single by Brandon Montgomery. The Quakes pushed the lead to 7-4 in the seventh. Inland Empire made it 7-5 in the eighth on Mike Stefanic's RBI single against Rancho reliever Guillermo Zuniga with two men on base. Zuniga got out of the eighth however and then struck out the side in order in the ninth to notch his first save of the year. Sven Schueller (5-3) was credited with the win out of the pen for Rancho Cucamonga. Six Inland Empire players had two-hit games but the Sixers were 4-for-17 with runners in scoring position and stranded 11 runners on base.
