Sixers Shoot Down JetHawks 6-1, Split Series

San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino were stymied their first time through the order versus Lancaster on Monday but unloaded for two runs in the fourth, four more in the fifth and downed Lancaster 6-1 splitting a four-game set on Monday. The 66ers (23-22) handed Lancaster starter Craig Schlitter (6-1) his first loss of the year while Jesus Castillo (1-0) earned his first California League victory in his fifth start.
Lancaster (24-21) scored the first run of the contest when Roberto Ramos doubled leading off the fourth and scored on Wes Rogers' single making it 1-0. Despite 11 hits in the contest, four of them extra-base-hits, that would be the lone run the JetHawks scored. Lancaster was 1-for-14 with runners in scoring positon.
The Sixers got to Schlitter in the bottom of the fourth when Taylor Ward tagged a ground-rule double to right -center with one out. Matt Thaiss then tripled to the gap and tied the game. Michael Barash's RBI double followed two later in the frame giving the 66ers a 2-1 lead. Inland Empire piled on in the fifth when Jose Rojas walked to open the frame and Cody Ramer doubled off the wall in left to score him. Jake Yacinich then beat out a bunt hit and Kyle Survance Jr. drilled a two-run single making it 5-1. Survance then stole second and came home on Ward's RBI single for a 6-1 lead. All six runs were charged to Schlitter. Helmis Rodriguez came in for the JetHawks and was terrific getting a strikeout and a double-play ball to end the frame. He tossed three more scoreless innings after that.
Castillo scattered nine hits over six innings with one walk and five Ks. He has now allowed just one run over 11 innings versus Lancaster this season. Garett Nuss tossed two scoreless frames with three Ks and Sam Holland had a perfect ninth with two Ks to ice the contest.
