BELOIT - One poor inning doomed the Beloit Sky Carp Wednesday night at ABC Supply Stadium.
The Sky Carp committed a costly error, eventually leading to three Cedar Rapids runs in the fifth inning of a 4-2 defeat.
The crowd of 1,658 enjoyed another perfect weather evening, enjoyed some Timmy Time and feasted on a terrific menu provided by the concession stands.
After starting pitcher M.D. Johnson surrendered a run in the top of the first inning, the Sky Carp bounced back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning.
Jose Salas began the inning with a single, stole second base and scored on a base hit by Nasim Nunez. The second run came when Nunez, the back end of a double steal, stole home to make it 2-1.
Johnson again cruised, minus the three-run inning. The Sky Carp bullpen was outstanding, hurling four scoreless frames, including a pair by Chandler Jozwiak that included three strikeouts.
The Sky Carp and Kernels will go at it again Thursday, with the game starting at 6:35. Gates will open at 5:30 for a Thirsty Thursday. Discounted beer will be available all evening, with 12-ounce drafts of Busch Light and Coors Light for just $2, and 16-ounce cans of both beers available for $4.
