Reno scored single runs in the first and second innings, but the Sky Sox (60-37) rallied with a pair of runs the second time through the lineup against Aces starter Tyler Badamo. Ivan De Jesus, who doubled in the second inning to extend his on-base streak to 39 games, singled off third baseman Willians Astudillo to score Mauricio Dubón.
Two batters later, Andrew Susac grounded a two-out infield single to second baseman Ildemaro Vargas. Lewis Brinson, who reached on an infield single of his own to extend his hitting streak to 16 games, hustled around to score the inning's second run to tie the game, 2-2.
The Aces (58-42) added to their lead with three runs over the fifth and sixth innings, but the Sox chipped away at the deficit for the second straight night, scoring a pair of runs in the sixth inning. Kirk Nieuwenhuis grounded out to second base with runners on second and third to score De Jesus, while Susac drove in his second run of the night on a single up the middle to score Nate Orf.
Chris Colabello entered as a pinch-hitter in the seventh inning and made his mark in his second game at Security Service Field, launching a game-tying solo home run to straightaway centerfield for his first long ball as a member of the Sky Sox.
After Reno responded with a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to jump back on top, Colorado Springs retook the lead with three runs in the bottom of the eighth with two outs. Nick Noonan lined a single to left field to score Nieuwenhuis for the game-tying run. The relay throw from left fielder Jeremy Hazelbaker sailed past the catcher, allowing Yadiel Rivera to come around and give the Sox a 7-6 lead. Kyle Wren lined a second consecutive single to left field to score Noonan and extend the lead to two runs.
Colorado Springs and Reno continue their lone 2017 series Sunday afternoon for a 1:30 p.m. MT matinee featuring RHP Bubba Derby (2-0, 2.33) making his second official home start and third overall appearance at Security Service. He'll face off against Aces RHP Jake Buchanan (3-2, 5.11) on the day when the Sox will don their Peanuts jerseys after getting rained out July 14.
