Colorado Springs (15-7) jumped out to an early lead three pitches into the game, as Lewis Brinson launched his second leadoff home run of the season-and fourth overall-to left field off OKC starter Wilmer Font to put the Sox ahead, 1-0. The homer also gives Brinson a six-game hitting streak, his second lengthy hitting streak since his season-opening 10-game streak.
A pair of Dodger home runs gave the hosts their second early two-run lead in as many games, but the Sox fought back for the second straight night. After Yadiel Rivera extended his hitting streak to four games to lead off the fifth inning, Andrew Susac belted his first home run of the season to the OKC bullpen in left field to tie the game at three apiece.
The Sox re-gained the lead with three runs in the sixth inning. Brett Phillips drove in his fourth run in two games against Oklahoma City (12-13) with a RBI single to right field, scoring Garrett Cooper. One batter later, Ivan De Jesus crushed his first home run of the season-a two-run shot-off the roof of the party deck in left field. The long ball increases De Jesus' hitting streak to six games and gave the visitors a three-run lead.
Despite allowing three early runs, Sox starter Josh Hader (3-2, 4.40) settled in through the middle innings, retiring 11 of 12 Dodgers after Darnell Sweeney doubled in the second inning. The lefty finished with three earned runs on five hits while striking out four Dodgers in six innings.
Tim Dillard (1, 1.59) threw three scoreless innings to earn his first save, striking out four Dodgers while allowing one base hit. In total, the Sky Sox pitching staff allowed five base runners after the second inning, surrendering just a pair of Max Muncy singles as the only hits allowed.
The Sky Sox and Dodgers tangle in a morning tilt for the third game of the four-game series. Hiram Burgos (1-1, 2.93) squares off with Fabio Castillo (0-1, 7.90) at 10:05 a.m. MT, looking for his second straight win after a shutout performance against Iowa on April 28.
