Round Rock Earns Series Sweep with 4-3 Win Over Salt Lake

The win also marks the first time this season that a Triple-A West League team has swept a six-game series.
Round Rock RHP Drew Anderson (3-1, 1.86) earned the night’s win, throwing three scoreless innings of relief while tallying six strikeouts. Salt Lake reliever RHP Austin Warren (1-1, 6.39) got the loss after allowing one run on one hit and a walk. RHP Joe Barlow earned the Express save, his fifth of the season, with a perfect ninth inning of relief. Round Rock’s pitching staff totaled 16 total strikeouts, including nine by starter RHP Wade LeBlanc, who made his E-Train debut with 5.0 strong innings.
The Express put a run on the board in the first inning when 2B Eli White hit a single to bring in CF Leody Taveras. In the bottom of the frame, the Bees responded with a run of their own as RF Jo Adell hit a leadoff home run to tie the contest at 1-1.
After two scoreless innings, Round Rock 1B Curtis Terry launched a two-run dinger to center field that also scored White, who had reached on a base hit, giving the Express a 3-1 lead in the fourth.
It was a first baseman’s duel as Salt Lake 1B Matt Thaiss hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning, crossing home plate along with DH Luis Rengifo to tie the game up at 3-3.
Round Rock secured the series finale win in the top of the seventh inning when SS Anderson Tejeda singled before stealing second base. On the play, Salt Lake C Francisco Arcia committed a throwing error that allowed Tejeda to race all the way home with the go-ahead run.
After allowing a leadoff triple to Rengifo in the bottom of the eighth inning, Anderson recovered to strike out the side, preserving the 4-3 victory.
The Round Rock Express returns to Dell Diamond on Thursday, June 3 to open a six-game series against the El Paso Chihuahuas (San Diego Padres affiliate). Thursday’s game will feature the Express playing as the Round Rock Chupacabras and the Chihuahuas playing as the El Paso Margaritas as part of Minor League Baseball’s Copa de la Diversión campaign, a nationwide initiative to celebrate the culture and values of Hispanic and Latino communities.
Chupacabras RHP Sam Gaviglio (2-1, 5.91) is scheduled to face Margaritas LHP Daniel Camarena (1-2, 3.68). First pitch at Dell Diamond is set for 7:05 p.m.
