The Tennessee Smokies dropped the first game of the series with the Birmingham Barons, 6-3.
Tennessee’s offensive efforts were highlighted by a two-run home run from Moises Ballesteros in the bottom of the first. Yohendrick Pinango followed it up with an RBI single to make it three runs for the Smokies in the frame. Birmingham starter Ky Bush rebounded to work six more innings, holding the Smokies scoreless and hitless the rest of the way.
On the mound, Matthew Thompson got the start for Tennessee. He ran into some early trouble, lasting just one inning and surrendering three runs and six walks. Alex Troop was tasked with relief and worked four innings while giving up two runs. Joe Nahas worked 2.2 innings and surrendered a run before Blake Weiman worked the final 1.1 scoreless.
Up next: Tennessee faces Birmingham again on Wednesday night with the first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m. ET
