KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (June 2, 2017) - Yosmer Solorzano allowed just one run in 7.0 innings on the mound, but the Intimidators fell to the Greensboro Grasshoppers 2-0 on Friday night at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System. Kannapolis (29-24) snapped a three-game winning streak with the loss and was held to just two hits tying a season low.
Solorzano (1-5) was a tough-luck loser, allowing the lone run on six hits and one walk while striking out five. His seven innings pitched tied a season high, while one earned run allowed also tied a season best. Greensboro starter Dustin Beggs (4-4) earned the win going 7.0 innings and fanning eight. Michael Mertz collected his second save of the year by pitching two scoreless frames.
Greensboro's first run came in the top of the third inning when Alex Jones singled to lead off the frame and scored with two outs on a sacrifice fly to center field by Aaron Knapp. Jones finished 2-for-4.
The Hoppers added an insurance run in the top of the ninth inning when Justin Twine walked with one out and scored three batters later on a single to left field by Luis Pintor making it 2-0. Pintor also finished 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Beggs and Mertz combined to retire the final 16 Kannapolis batters en route to victory.
Kannapolis continues its four-game homestand with the third game of a four-game series against Greensboro on Saturday night as RHP Alec Hansen (5-3, 2.96 ERA) takes the mound against Grasshoppers' LHP Dylan Lee (3-5, 4.53 ERA) at 7:05 p.m. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. Saturday features postgame superhero themed fireworks presented by Charlotte Eye Ear Nose and Throat Associates.
