SOUTH BEND, IN - With just one week until Opening Night, the South Bend Cubs and Executive Chef Josh Farmer have announced a brand-new line of food options coming in the 2019 season.
"Josh and our kitchen staff do a fantastic job of keeping our menu diverse and delicious," South Bend Cubs President Joe Hart said. "A goal for us each season is to increase the variety of our ballpark food options for our fans. Thanks to Josh's hard work, I think all guests coming to Four Winds Field this year will really enjoy what we have to offer."
After paying close attention to end of the year fan surveys, the Four Winds Field menu has introduced an Italian sausage sandwich with freshly grilled peppers and onions at the new Burgertopia location. Burgertopia has moved from next to Gate A on the 3rd base side of the concourse to the 1st base side of the concourse, behind section 105. The ever-popular burger stand will now have its own cart and will be easily accessible for fans walking the concourse.
Taking the spot of Burgertopia is the new "Sweet Spot" stand. Sweet Spot will serve guest's favorite ice creams and desserts beside Gate A and kitty-corner from the Dippin' Dots cart. On a warm summer day at Four Winds Field, fans can cool off at Sweet Spot with new hand dipped and novelty ice creams. Also available at Sweet Spot are new fried churros. The Churros will also be customizable with ice cream and toppings.
Another keynote item on the Sweet Spot menu are elephant ears. During the 2018 season, elephant ears were a special homestand item. Due to the popularity during that time, the South Bend Cubs have put them on the full-time menu.
Chef Farmer has also introduced new loaded tater tots to the Waveland and Sheffield concession stands. Also coming to Waveland and Sheffield is the freshest corndog in Minor League Baseball. Four Winds Field already serves the best hot dog in baseball, but the cooking staff is taking it to the next level with made to order deep-fried corn dogs. Beginning in May, South Bend Cubs fans can enjoy fresh squeezed lemonade along with their corn dogs.
Like 2018, every homestand will include a featured food item. Don't delay trying each item, as they will only be served for a limited time. If you enjoy a particular featured item, let the staff know, as some food may even be added to the full-time menu like elephant ears
Finally, guests will have the option to add a combo to their order by getting a bag of Uncle Ray's potato chips and a 16 oz. drink for an extra $2.50. The combo not only gives fans more food, but they can also eat the official potato chips of Minor League Baseball while watching a game from 2017's best Single-A ballpark.
"Each and every game, we do our best to deliver the best quality product to our fans so that it is not only tasty, but also memorable" Farmer said. "I take pride in the fact that our food keeps fans coming back. It's all about delivering a great product with a creative spin."
The 2019 campaign will be the fifth season as a Chicago Cubs affiliate. South Bend will open the year at home on April 4 at 7:05 p.m. against the West Michigan Whitecaps.
Prior to Opening Night, the South Bend Cubs will face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in an exhibition on April 3. Gates will open at 5 p.m. with first pitch at 6 p.m. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the South Bend Cubs Box Office or by calling (574) 235-9988. All ticket proceeds will go to charity.
