PASCO, WA: The Tri-City Dust Devils (7-12) wore Captain America themed jerseys on Marvel Defenders of the Diamond Night at Gesa Stadium however it wasn't enough to overcome superhero performances from Everett AquaSox (11-8) pitchers and their lead off second baseman as the road team played the role of villain on the way to a 4-1 victory.
The AquaSox led off the game with a home run over the left field wall for the second straight night. It was Mike Salvatore's turn on Friday as Thursday's leadoff hitter and reigning Northwest League Player of the Week recipient Noelvi Marte was given the night off. Salvatore hit a full count pitch from Dust Devils starter Jose Salvador out of the park for the early 1-0 lead.
Everett added to the lead in the second inning when Trent Tingelstad singled into right field to score Cole Barr. The AquaSox tacked on another run one batter later when Victor Labrada tagged up from third base and scored on a Salvator sacrifice fly into center field, extending the lead to 3-0 after two innings.
Justin Lavey walked with the bases loaded in the top of the fifth inning, scoring Andy Thomas for a 4-0 AquaSox advantage. Tri-City would then answer in the bottom of the fifth when Christian Molfetta scored on Jose Guzman's double.
Neither team would score after the fifth inning as the pitching took over. The AquaSox had ample opportunities, leaving 13 runners on base and batting 1-for-13 in the game with runners in scoring position. Meanwhile the AquaSox pitching did their jobs to limit the Dust Devils bats. Starting pitcher Juan Mercedes only allow one run, four hits, three walks and three strikeouts over six innings. Leon Hunter Jr, Tim Elliott and Isaiah Campbell contributed one scoreless inning each to close out the game and preserve the Everett victory.
Salvatore went 1-2 with a home run, two walks, one run and two stolen bases. Campbell is now nine-for-nine in save opportunities and has yet to give up a run since moving to the bullpen. He has pitched in 12 games since June 4, going 12 innings allowing four hits, one walk and 17 strikeouts. AquaSox starting pitchers Prelander Berroa, Logan Rinehart, Jimmy Joyce and Mercedes have combined to pitch 20.2 innings over the first four games of the series, allowing nine hits, one run, seven walks and 28 strikeouts with an ERA of 0.44.
