Spokane Steals Game Two 5-4

Hillsboro, OR (August 10, 2022) - A pair of Indians recorded three-hit games, as Julio Carreras and Bladimir Resituyo had the hot bats in game two of the series. Jamison Hill once again worked deep into the game and Deyvison De Los Santos had a pair of doubles, in the 5-4 Hillsboro defeat.

Bladimir Restituyo, the Spokane leadoff hitter, singled and stole second to start the first inning. The Northwest League leader in hits, Julio Carreras, brought him home with an RBI single to give the Indians an early lead.

Spokane starter, Joe Rock, faced the Hops three times this season and entered the game with a 1.00 ERA against Hillsboro in 18.1 innings pitched.

The Hops quickly responded against Rock in the bottom of the frame, as Deyvison De Los Santos added to his MiLB leading hit total with an RBI double. De Los Santos has eight extra-base hits in 17 games with the Hops. Hillsboro briefly took the lead in the third, with Jordan Lawlar picking up his 13th High-A RBI on a sac fly.

Back-to-back-to-back singles to start the fifth for the Indians loaded the bases with nobody out. Bladimir Restituyo and Julio Carreras both picked up their third hit of the game in the inning, as the Indians took a 3-2 lead.

Jamison Hill pitched six innings for the fifth time this season, allowing eight hits and three runs, while striking out three.

Adam McKillican replaced Joe Rock in the sixth, as Rock threw five two-hit innings. McKillican had a 0.85 ERA in 23 games, but would allow a run in the inning, after De Los Santos hit his second double of the game.

It was 3-3 heading to the seventh, where both teams scored. Spokane got a pair of runs across when Hops’ pitcher, Justin Martinez, had a throwing error trying to record an out at third base. His throw went all the way down the left field line, scoring Ward and Restituyo.

Cam Coursey made his return to the lineup on Wednesday and reached base three times. He singled to lead off the seventh, bringing up Caleb Roberts. Roberts drilled a ball off the middle of the batter’s eye 417-feet, for his third triple and 40th RBI. Lawlar struck out to end the inning, stranding the tying run at third base and keeping the score at 5-4.

Hillsboro threatened in the bottom of the ninth, getting the go-ahead run to first base with just one out. Ryan Bliss battled against Blake Goldsberry, but struck out. That sent Caleb Roberts to the dish. He smoked a ball to the right center gap, a line drive off the bat that initially looked like it could end the game, but the Indians had it played perfectly and recorded the final out. Goldsberry got his first save of the year and struck out five in 2.1 innings.

Hillsboro (45-57) and Spokane (53-48) will play game three at Ron Tonkin field on Thursday. The pre-game show will start at 6:50, with first pitch at 7:05 on Rip City Radio 620 and MiLB.tv
