Evan Mendoza opened the Springfield 10th with a sac bunt up the third base line. Erasmo Pinales' (0-2) throw to first skipped in the dirt, allowing Mendoza to reach. With men at the corners, Chris Chinea bounced a single through the left side, putting the Cards in front for the second time in the three-game series. Four more hits followed as Springfield sent 10 men to the plate, cementing the win.
Hooks starter Corbin Martin surrendered just two hits over a career-best 7 2/3 shutout innings. The Texas A&M product fanned nine and did not issue a walk, throwing 63 of 88 pitches for strikes.
Martin has permitted two earned runs over his last four appearances, spanning 21 innings.
Jake Woodford worked the first eight innings and Landon Beck limited the Hooks to a pair of singles while recording the final six outs, saddling Corpus Christi with its second shutout loss of the year.
Randy César went 3-for-4 with a double, extending his hit streak to a Texas League best 17 games.
