For the first time in three years, Luke Weaver's season was not delayed by injury. But two innings into his 2017 campaign, the injury bug bit once again.
The Cardinals placed their third-ranked prospect on the seven-day disabled list, retroactive to Friday, with a reported hand or wrist injury. The A's also sent their No. 4 prospect, Matt Chapman, to the DL on Sunday with a left wrist injury.

Weaver, MLB.com's No. 66 overall prospect, got the ball on Opening Day for Triple-A Memphis at New Orleans. He allowed one hit without a walk and a strikeout over two innings while also helping his team at the plate. He doubled and scored in the third before being lifted in the middle of the frame.
The 23-year-old right-hander has battled several injuries since being selected with the 27th overall pick of the 2014 Draft, including a broken wrist in 2016 and back spasms at camp this year, but continues to be dominant when on the mound.
Weaver has a career 1.76 ERA with 193 strikeouts and 35 walks in 199 2/3 innings across 39 starts. He reached the Majors last year, posting a 5.70 ERA with 45 punchouts and 12 walks in 36 1/3 innings over nine games -- eight starts.
Chapman, MLB.com's No. 97 overall prospect, opened the year on a tough note. He was 0-for-7 with six strikeouts for Triple-A Nashville before exiting in the fourth of his second game Friday.
The 23-year-old third baseman also was taken in the first round of the 2014 Draft, two picks before Weaver. Chapman has a career .241/.323/.506 slash line in 271 Minor League games. He was limited to 80 games in 2015 with a left knee injury.
