PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (April 8, 2018) - Strong pitching and a pair of two-spots lifted the Charlotte Stone Crabs to a 4-1 win at Charlotte Sports Park Sunday, earning a split of their four-game series with the Fort Myers Miracle.
Starting pitcher Mikey York (1-0) earned the win in his first High-A start, allowing one run on five hits over 5.2 innings. He did not record a single out via a groundball, striking out two and inducing 15 fly ball outs.
York allowed only one hit over the first three innings before surrendering a solo home run to Jaylin Davis in the fourth, which gave Fort Myers (2-2) a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the inning, Stone Crabs (2-2) center fielder Josh Lowe singled before stealing second base against Miracle starter Brady Anderson (0-1). Two batters later, Nate Lowe pulled a double to the wall in right to plate his younger brother and tie the game at one. After another out, right fielder Jesús Sánchez socked a double to straightaway center to plate Nate Lowe and give Charlotte a 2-1 lead.
Still up by that margin in the bottom of the seventh, Tristan Gray and David Rodríguez both singled with two outs. The next batter was Miles Mastrobuoni, who lined a triple to right center to score both runners and give the Stone Crabs a 4-1 lead.
Charlotte reliever Adrian Navas went 2.1 scoreless innings, striking out three and allowing only one hit and one walk. Right-hander Spencer Jones worked a perfect ninth inning for his first save of the season.
The Stone Crabs will start a seven-game road trip when they visit the Daytona Tortugas on Monday at 7:05 p.m. RHP Willy Ortiz makes the start for Charlotte against LHP Seth Varner of Daytona. Coverage begins at 6:50 p.m. on the Stone Crabs Baseball Network.
