“Stro Show” Set For Sport’s Biggest Stage

While the connections between our humble franchise and the biggest stage in the sport are few this World Series, two former C’s pitchers are on the roster for the New York Yankees and could very much figure in to manager Aaron Boone’s pitching plans in the best-of-seven set. There’s also a former Canadians skipper manning the first base coach’s box for the Los Angeles Dodgers. We’ll check in on all of them over the course of the entire Series. First up: Marcus Stroman, the “Stro Show.”

Stroman, 33, streaked through Vancouver in 2012 like a comet, only appearing in seven games – all in relief – for the C’s while racking up 15 Ks in 11.1 innings before finishing his prop debut season with Double-A New Hampshire. He spent all of 2013 with the Fisher Cats then began 2014 with Triple-A Buffalo before making his MLB debut on May 4 of that year.

After five and a half seasons with the Jays that spanned 135 games and 789.2 innings, Stroman was dealt to the Mets at the trade deadline in 2019 a few weeks following his first All-Star appearance. He opted out of the 2020 season then returned to Queens for 2021and established a career high with 33 starts before hitting the free agent market that winter and signing with the Chicago Cubs. The righty posted two season’s worth of decent numbers on the North Side and earned another All-Star nod in 2023 then went back into free agency, which brought him to the Bronx. Stroman went 10-9 with a 4.31 ERA in 154.2 regular season innings in 2024.
