MONTGOMERY, AL - Adam Leverett started strong, the offense surged in the seventh, and the bullpen finished a 6-1 win for the Montgomery Biscuits (39-28) over the Birmingham Barons (40-27) on Friday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

The Biscuits can clinch the first half and a postseason berth with a win or a Pensacola loss tomorrow night.

Leverett tossed five innings of one-run ball and kept the game close. Mason Adams pitched six innings of one-hit ball, and Montgomery took advantage when he left the game.

In the seventh, the Biscuits ripped off four runs on four hits and two Barons’ errors. Dominic Keegan singled in the leading run on a line drive to right field, and Kenny Piper dropped a triple onto the right-field chalk to score another run in the inning.

After the Barons loaded the bases in the eighth, Keyshawn Askew retired three straight hitters to get out of the frame with no damage, including an emphatic strikeout of Edgar Quero.

After adding on two insurance runs in the eighth, Alfredo Zarraga slammed the door with three consecutive strikeouts in the ninth inning.

The fifth game of the series is on Saturday night at Riverwalk Stadium. Ian Seymour will make the start for Montgomery while Noah Schultz is slated to start for Birmingham. The first pitch is at 6:05pm CT. Fans can listen on Sports Radio 740, MiLB First Pitch App, and Bally Live.
