RubberDucks Game Recap
SeaWolves 2 (3-0) RubberDucks 0 (2-3)
WP: Beau Burrows (1-1) LP: Zach Draper (0-1) Save: Drew Carlton (6)
Summary
The Akron RubberDucks and Erie SeaWolves were locked in a pitcher's duel for much of the game until the SeaWolves broke the tie in the fifth inning and added an insurance run in the eighth, winning 2-0 Saturday night at Canal Park.
Turning Point
Akron starter Zach Draper dodged damage all night but was touched for a single run in the top of the fifth inning when Jose Asocar dropped in a single to right field, scoring Derek Hill. That would be the lone run that Draper would allow and would be enough for Erie to hold on to for the win.
Mound Presence
Akron RubberDucks starter Zach Draper made his first appearance at the double-A level, making the start and working through 5.2 solid innings for the RubberDucks. Draper kept his composure throughout the night which was characteristic of high class-A performances where he posted a 4-0 record with a 1.33 ERA at Lake County. The Akron Bullpen would allow an insurance run in the eighth inning on a Kody Eaves solo home run into the right field bullpen.
Duck Tales
The Akron offense struggled all night against Beau Burrows and the Erie bullpen, only collecting two hits and two walks against the Erie starter while striking out three times. The RubberDucks did not go down without a fight however, advancing runners to second and third base with only one out in the ninth inning but were unable to push across any runs. The Ducks would finish with seven total hits, all of them singles, and couldn't come up with the timely hitting they needed, going 0-4 with runners in scoring position on the night.
Notebook
Shortstop Ernie Clement has been incredibly consistent for the RubberDucks, having now hit safely in 34 of 43 games played this season … With his two hits, Ka'ai Tom posted his 18th multi-hit game of the 2019 campaign, which puts him at 2nd in the Eastern League with 125 total bases … Logan Ice picked up two singles on the night and posted his second multi-hit game of the season, his first season April 7 vs. Altoona… Time of Game: 2:20… Attendance: 8,027 (Sellout #3)
On the Pond
The RubberDucks will now play the last of their three-game series with the Earie SeaWolves at 2:05 p.m. Sunday afternoon. The game will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1350 AM, the WARF iHeart channel, and the TuneIn Radio App. LHP Sam Hentges (1-8, 4.84) will take the ball for Akron as the RubberDucks face off against RHP Spenser Watkins (2-0, 3.45) and Erie.
