PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the period of April 24th through April 30th.

Binghamton Rumble Ponies outfielder Champ Stuart has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of April 24th-April 30th. The 24-year old hit .455 (10-for-22) with two doubles, one triple, two home runs, five RBIs, six runs scored, five stolen bases, four walks, and a .909 slugging percentage in six games for the Rumble Ponies last week. Stuart, who is a native of Freeport, Bahamas, had at least one hit in all six games he played in last week and had three multiple hit games, including going 3-for-5 with a home run, two RBIs, and two stolen bases in a 7-5 loss against New Hampshire on Friday night. The 6'0", 185 lb. slugger led all Eastern League players in hits (10), total bases (20), and stolen bases (5) last week and tied for the league lead in runs scored (6) and triples (1). He also ranked among the weekly leaders in extra-base hits (5-tied 2nd), home runs (2-tied 2nd), slugging percentage (.909-3rd), OPS (1.428-4th), batting average (.455-5th), on-base percentage (.519-5th), RBIs (5-tied 5th), walks (4-tied 6th), and doubles (2-tied 10th). Champ, who is batting .250 with a league-high 11 stolen bases in 18 games for the Rumble Ponies this season, was selected by the New York Mets in the sixth round of the 2013 draft out of Brevard College.

Julian Merryweather, a right-handed starting pitcher for the Akron RubberDucks, has been selected as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of April 24th-April 30th. The 6'4", 200 lb. hurler started two games for the RubberDucks last week and had a record of 2-0 with 11 strikeouts and a 1.42 ERA. Merryweather, who is a native of Berkeley, California, made his first start of the week on Monday against the visiting Binghamton Rumble Ponies, and gave up two runs, one earned, on three hits over 6.2 innings to earn the win in Akron's 5-2 victory. He struck out six batters and walked one while getting his first win of the season. Julian made his second start on Sunday at Bowie and gave up one run over six innings to pick up the win for Akron in an 11-2 victory. He scattered four hits while striking out five batters and walking one. The 25-year old tied for the league lead in strikeouts (11) and wins (2) last week and also ranked among the weekly leaders in innings pitched (12.2-tied 2nd) and WHIP (0.71-3rd). Julian, who has a record of 2-1 with a 3.04 ERA in five starts for the RubberDucks this season and is tied for the league lead with 27 strikeouts, was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the fifth round of the 2014 draft out of Oklahoma Baptist University.
