ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Round Rock Express (8-4 | 52-34) took down the Sugar Land Space Cowboys (2-10 | 35-52) in the series finale by a final score of 7-1 at Dell Diamond on Sunday night.

Express starter RHP Robert Dugger (5-5, 4.52) dazzled over 6.0 innings as he allowed just one run on one hit without issuing a walk. He struck out nine. Space Cowboys starter RHP Spencer Arrighetti (0-1, 4.50) was tagged with the loss after allowing three earned runs on six hits with three walks and six strikeouts.

Along the Train Tracks:

  • The Space Cowboys jumped on the board in the second inning. A solo home run from 1B Jon Singleton that traveled 405 feet made it a 1-0 game.
  • Express 1B Blaine Crim answered for the E-Train in the bottom of the second inning. Crim hammered a baseball 435 feet to tie the game at one apiece.
  • Round Rock took the lead with two runs in the fourth inning. Back-to-back doubles for Crim and RF Elier Hernandez put runners on second and third base. SS Jonathan Ornelas and LF J.P. Martinez each collected an RBI with singles and the Express led 3-1.
  • The E-Train tacked on two more to take a 5-1 lead in the seventh inning. After CF Bubba Thompson reached on an error, RF Dustin Harris C Sam Huff came up with two outs and doubled down the line to score two.
  • After SS Jonathan Ornelas reached base on a fielder’s choice, CF J.P. Martinez came to the dish and ripped a two-run home run to right field which extended the lead to 7-1. Express RHP Yerry Rodriguez entered in the ninth and tossed a scoreless inning to secure the win.

E-Train Excerpts:

  • Express starter RHP Robert Dugger collected a season-high nine strikeouts in his 6.0 innings of work. His previous high was eight strikeouts against Reno on May 6. Dugger has gone 6.0 innings or more six times this season. He has tossed 5.0 innings or more in five consecutive starts.
  • 1B Blaine Crim and LF J.P. Martinez each had a multi-hit game with a homer. Crim went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, an RBI, two runs scored and a walk. Martinez finished 2-for-3 with a homer, three RBI, a run scored and a walk. In seven games this month, Martinez is 12-for-28 with four doubles, three home runs, six runs scored, 11 RBI and four walks.

Next up: Round Rock will face the Tacoma Rainiers (Seattle Mariners affiliate) in a three-game series at Cheney Stadium beginning July 14 at 9:05 p.m. CT. Both starting pitchers for game one are to be announced.
