Sugilio, Clementina swing 'Tugas past Tarpons, 9-3

22-year-old duo combine for six hits and four RBI to snap losing streak

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - CF Andy Sugilio collected four hits and drove in three, while DH Hendrik Clementina smashed his third homer in two days, as the Daytona Tortugas snapped a four-game losing streak with a 9-3 win over the Tampa Tarpons in front of 2,419 fans at Jackie Robinson Ballpark on Monday night.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - CF Andy Sugilio collected four hits and drove in three, while DH Hendrik Clementina smashed his third homer in two days, as the Daytona Tortugas snapped a four-game losing streak with a 9-3 win over the Tampa Tarpons in front of 2,419 fans at Jackie Robinson Ballpark on Monday night.

The Tortugas (6-8, 41-38) got out of the gates early. Sugilio (4-5, 2 R, 3B, 3 RBI) and 3B Alejo López (1-4, SO) began the game with singles on consecutive pitches. With runners at first and third and one out, 2B Jonathan India (0-2, R, RBI, BB, SO) lofted a sacrifice fly to right, giving Daytona a 1-0 advantage.
In the fourth, India drew a free pass and Clementina (2-3, 2 R, 2B, HR, RBI, BB) doubled to left to put men at second and third with nobody out. After a wild pitch brought India home, 1B Bruce Yari (0-2, R, RBI) brought in Clementina with a sacrifice fly to center, extending the lead to 3-0.
Tampa (6-7, 34-45) finally got on the board in the sixth. Leading off the inning, CF Estevan Florial (2-3, 2 R, HR, RBI, BB, SO) crushed a ball over the fence in right for a solo home run. The one-run blast - his third of the year - drew the Tarpons within two, 3-1.
Daytona immediately responded in the bottom of the frame. Clementina launched a 2-2 pitch on top of the batting cages in left for a towering solo home run. The 22-year-old's team-leading ninth longball of the year put the 'Tugas back ahead by three, 4-1.
The onslaught did not stop there as the team loaded the bases on a hit-by-pitch of Yari, a single from SS Yonathan Mendoza (2-3, 2 R, BB), and a walk to C Mark Kolozsvary (0-3, R, BB). Following an RBI ground out by RF Lorenzo Cedrola (0-4, RBI, SO), Sugilio punched a single into left. Two runners crossed on the base-hit to stretch the Tortugas authority to a game-best six, 7-1.
A single by LF Pablo Olivares (1-4, RBI) and a throwing error allowed the Tarpons to snatch two more runs in the seventh, but that was as close as the visitors would get the rest of the night.
In the bottom of the eighth, Daytona earned those two runs back - making it 9-3 - as Sugilio uncorked an RBI triple down the right-field line and then crossed on a wild pitch.
RHP Austin Orewiler (5.1 IP, 4 H, R, ER, 3 BB, 6 SO) continued his recent dominance atop the hill for the 'Tugas. The 26-year-old issued just one run over 5.1 innings to collect his fifth victory of the season.
Tampa's RHP Trevor Stephan (3.1 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB, SO) failed to make it out of the fourth, suffering his second defeat.
It will be an action-packed night on Tuesday, as the Tortugas host NASCAR Night at The Jack. In preparation for the Coke Zero 400, NASCAR's most popular driver - Chase Elliott - will be attendance courtesy of NAPA Auto Parts and the Wall Automotive Group. All children ages 14 and under will have the chance to meet the driver and receive the opportunity to get one item autographed starting at 6:15 p.m.
In addition, it will be a Silver Sluggers Night presented by MetCare at the ballpark, as members of the Tortugas' exclusive 60-and-older club receive a free drink, discounted Michelob Ultra, and a reserved ticket for every Tuesday night home game. Fans will also be able to join in with Baseball Bingo through the night. The squad will host another Cancer Awareness Night at the ballpark presented by Radiology Imaging Centers. Daytona players and coaches will don special pink-tinted uniforms that highlight many local cancer survivors. Fans are encouraged to come hungry for a Taco Tuesday at The Jack with beef and chicken tacos going for just $2.
RHP Jared Solomon (0-3, 3.48 ERA) - Cincinnati's No. 30 prospect according to MLBPipeline.com - is expected to get the ball for Daytona. Tampa is scheduled to counter with the Yankees' No. 20 prospect according to MLBPipeline, RHP Frank Germán (3-4, 4.34 ERA).
