Romero has rocky second start for Hagerstown

Lakewood, NJ - The Hagerstown Suns were shut out by the Lakewood BlueClaws on Tuesday, falling to Lakewood 5-0 at FirstEnergy Park in the second game of a four-game series. The Suns fall to 24-39 overall and will play Lakewood again on Wednesday with a 7:05 PM first pitch.

Lakewood, NJ - The Hagerstown Suns were shut out by the Lakewood BlueClaws on Tuesday, falling to Lakewood 5-0 at FirstEnergy Park in the second game of a four-game series. The Suns fall to 24-39 overall and will play Lakewood again on Wednesday with a 7:05 PM first pitch.

Lakewood plated the first runs of the game in the third inning on Tuesday against lefty Seth Romero who made his second start of the season for Hagerstown. Kevin Markham was hit by a pitch with one out and stole second base but scored when Nick Maton hit a high home run over the right field wall to give the BlueClaws a 2-0 lead. Jhailyn Ortiz was also hit by a pitch and went to second when Jake Schiener grounded out, but Quincy Nieporte singled to right, scoring Ortiz and extending the Lakewood lead to 3-0. Daniel Brito homered in the next at-bat with another high-fly ball that landed over the right-field wall to cap the BlueClaws scoring and give them a 5-0 lead.
The Suns best chance to score came in the seventh with Jonathan Hennigan entering the game. Yasel Antuna led off with a single to left and with one out, Alex Flores collected his second hit of the game with a single. With two outs, Armond Upshaw hit a ball up the middle, but it glanced off of Hennigan's glove while Maton at shortstop made a quick adjustment to throw Upshaw out at first to end the inning. The Suns went down in order over the final two innings of the game, falling 5-0.  
Romero (0-1) threw three innings in the loss, allowing five runs on five hits with three strikeouts. Jared Johnson went three scoreless innings in his Suns debut, allowing three hits with three strikeouts. A.J. Bogucki threw the last two innings of the game, allowing a hit and a walk with three strikeouts.
Notes: Flores had his fifth multi-hit game of the season… Banks extended his hitting streak to three games… Corredor's five-game hit streak was snapped… The five runs allowed by Romero ties his career high… The five hits he allowed are the second-most in his career… With the loss, the Suns are 4-4 on Tuesday overall… The 5-0 loss was their first Tuesday road loss of the season… The Suns are 4-9 against Lakewood this season… Hagerstown was shut out for the first time since May 29 when they lost to the Hickory Crawdads 7-0… The Suns continue their four-game series against the Lakewood BlueClaws on Wednesday with a 7:05 PM first pitch… The Suns will send LHP Nick Raquet (4-5 ERA) to the mound against Lakewood LHP will Stewart (5-0, 1.25) in a battle of SAL All-Star pitchers… Wednesday night's broadcast can be heard, starting with the pregame show at 6:50 PM on www.hagerstownsuns.com by going to multimedia and "Listen Live"...
