Hagerstown falls to 3-10 in the second half and has an overall record of 30-51. The Suns and Shorebirds continue their series with the second game set for Thursday with a 7:05 PM first pitch.
Brigham Hill started Wednesday's game for the Suns and didn't allow a run until the fourth inning when Delmarva took the first lead of the game. Mason McCoy led off with a two-strike double to right and Zach Jarrett doubled to right, driving in McCoy to give Delmarva a 1-0 advantage. With two outs and a full count, Will Robertson doubled to right to score Jarrett for the second run of the inning. Jean Carrillo drove in Robertson with a single to center and the Shorebirds took a 3-0 lead.
The Suns best chance to score was in the third inning, when Choruby singled and stole second. He went to third when Yasel Antuna singled, but Choruby was picked off and caught stealing between third and home for the second out of the inning. The Suns were held to just four hits in the game and were sat down in order over the final three innings in a 3-0 loss to open the three-game set.
Hill (0-2) threw 4.2 innings while allowing three runs on eight hits with two strikeouts in the loss. Phil Morse worked 1.1 innings, allowing a walk with two strikeouts. Andrew Lee pitched one inning on Wednesday with a pair of strikeouts. Frankie Bartow made his second appearance of the season and didn't allow a baserunner with one strikeout.
Notes: Choruby had his fist multi-hit game since joining the Suns to start the second half… Antuna has a five-game hit streak… Jake Scudder extended his hit streak to five games… Hill's 4.2 innings of work is his longest start of the year… His eight hits allowed are also the most this season and falls one short of a career-high… The Suns are now 5-8 against the Shorebirds in the season series… There are six games left to play against the Shorebirds in 2018, with the winner of the season series also becoming the inaugural winner of the Governor's Cup trophy… Hagerstown continues their three-game series with Delmarva on Thursday night with a 7:05 PM first pitch… The Suns will send RHP Tomas Alastre (3-3, 5.15 ERA) to the mound against Shorebirds LHP DL Hall (0-5, 3.14).
