Hagerstown, MD - Kameron Esthay and Omar Meregildo recorded three hits each in the Hagerstown Suns 2-0 shutout win against the Lexington Legends on Thursday night at Historic Municipal Stadium. The Suns are 21-28 in the second half and 48-69 overall and will play the final game of the three-game set on Friday night with a 7:05 PM first pitch.
Hagerstown scored first in the second inning against Lexington starter JC Cloney. Anderson Franco and Omar Meregildo hit back-to-back singles to put runners on first and second with no outs. With two outs, Nick Choruby walked and Armond Upshaw singled, plating Meregildo to take a 1-0 advantage.
The Suns added a run to their lead in the third inning against Cloney. With two outs, Meregildo singled to left and stole second to put a runner in scoring position. Kameron Esthay tripled down the right-field line, scoring Meregildo to make it a 2-0 Hagerstown lead. Alex Flores grounded out to short to end the threat and the frame.
Hagerstown's relief pitching held Lexington to four hits over seven innings of work in the 2-0 win. The Legends loaded the bases in the fifth against Carlos Pena, but the righty worked out of the jam to preserve the shutout. Lexington had three runners in scoring position for the rest of the game, but each time the bullpen stranded the runner.
Seth Romero pitched two scoreless innings while allowing one hit and striking out four hitters in his shortest start of his career. Pena (1-1) spun four innings while giving up two hits, four walks, and striking out six. Jared Brasher pitched the seventh-inning and walked one batter with two strikeouts. Frankie Bartow pitched the final two innings while allowing two hits, earning his third save of the season.
