Suns Snap Losing Streak with 3-2 Win on Saturday

Alastre, Corredor propel Hagerstown to victory over Kannapolis

Hagerstown, MD - Aldrem Corredor collected two hits while Tomas Alastre had a quality start as the Hagerstown Suns snapped a five-game losing streak by defeating the Kannapolis Intimidators on Saturday night with a 3-2 win at Intimidators Stadium. The Suns improve to 19-35 overall and will play the rubber match of the three-game series on Sunday with a 5:05 PM first pitch.

The Intimidators took the first lead of the ballgame, plating a run in the second against Suns starter Alastre. Tate Blackman singled to right and went to second when Anthony Villa was hit by a pitch. Evan Skoug singled to right and both runners advanced one station. With one out and the bases loaded, Alex Destino walked to push Blackman across, putting Kannapolis in front, 1-0.
The Suns answered back in the top of the fourth, taking the lead against Intimidators starter Blake Battenfield. With one out, Luis Garcia reached on an error and scored to tie the game when Corredor doubled to right. Nick Banks was hit by a pitch and Yasel Antuna doubled to right, driving in Corredor to give the Suns a 2-1 advantage.
Hagerstown extended their lead in the fifth while Battenfield was still on the mound. Armand Upshaw walked and scored from first when Cole Freeman singled to left, quickly making it a 3-1 Suns advantage. Freeman went to third with two outs on a passed ball and Corredor walked, but Banks flew out to center to end the inning and the threat.
Things got dicey in the eighth, with Kannapolis coming within a run against Suns reliever A.J. Bogucki in his second inning of work. With one out, Villa and Skoug both singled, while Luis Curbelo walked to load the bases. Bogucki struck out Destino, but Tyler Frost walked to plate Villa and make it a 3-2 game. Bogucki struck out Luis González on three pitches to end the inning while holding the Suns lead. Carlos Pena took the mound for the Suns in the ninth, retiring the side in order to give Hagerstown a one-run victory.
Alastre (3-2) earned the win in a quality start, allowing one run on six hits with two walks and five strikeouts. Bogucki earned his second hold of the year while limiting Kannapolis to one run on three hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Pena earned a save in his 2018 Suns debut, throwing one inning without allowing a baserunner with two strikeouts.
Notes: Alastre earned his third quality start of the season… It's the Sun's 14 as a team… He's had three starts last six innings this season… Corredor extended his hit streak to five games… He also had his 11th multi-hit game of the season… Baez has a three-game hit streak… Hagerstown is 7-3 overall and 3-2 on the road on Saturdays this season… The win snaps a five-game losing streak, which is the longest such streak of the 2018 season for the Suns… The team earned its third win in a one-run game… The Suns wrap-up the three-game series on Sunday against the Kannapolis Intimidators with a 5:05 PM first pitch… The Suns will start RHP Jackson Tetreault (0-6, 6.38 ERA) while Kannapolis will send a LHP John Parke (5-2, 2.73 ERA) to the hill…
