Suns Sweep RiverDogs in Double Header on Tuesday

Hagerstown, MD - Cole Freeman improved his hit streak to seven games with base-knocks in both games as the Hagerstown Suns swept a double header against the Charleston RiverDogs on Tuesday, winning game one 10-7 and game two 7-4. The Suns improve to 13-25 and have an off-day on Wednesday.

The Suns scored first in the bottom of the second inning by taking advantage of three walks issued by RiverDogs starter Dalton Lehnen. With one out, Branden Boggetto doubled to left and Aldrem Corredor walked. Alex Flores walked to load the bases and Armond Upshaw tripled to left, clearing the bases and giving the Suns a 3-0 lead. Upshaw scored in the next at-bat when Cole Freeman singled to left, making it a 4-0 Suns advantage.
Charleston got a run off Suns starter Matthew DeRosier in the top of the fourth, but Hagerstown blew the game open in the bottom of the frame. Alex Flores walked to start the inning while both Upshaw and Freeman bunted for base hits to load the bases. Luis Garcia drove in a pair of runs with a double to right, giving the Suns a 6-2 lead. Nick Banks blasted a two-out homer to center field plating three and making it a 9-1 Suns lead.
The RiverDogs homered three times in the sixth drawing two runs against Suns reliever Carlos Acevedo. Jason Lopez, Dom Thompson-Williams, and Steven Sensley all hit long home runs to cut into the Suns lead and make it a 9-7 game.
In the bottom of the frame, the Suns got one run back to increase their lead to three runs. Garcia triple to right and Antuna doubled to left, scoring Garcia to give Hagerstown a 10-7 lead. Steven Fuentes entered in the seventh inning for the Suns, with Pablo Olivares singling to lead off the frame. After an errant throw on a pickoff attempt put Olivares on second, Fuentes retired the next three hitters to end the game.
DeRosier (1-1) earned the win after throwing 5.0 innings while allowing two runs on six hits with a walk and five strikeouts. Acevedo threw an inning while allowing five runs on five hits. Fuentes earned his first save of the year, tossing the seventh while allowing one hit with a strikeout.
In the second game, the RiverDogs got out to an early lead, with Thompson-Williams homering for the third time on Tuesday and the fifth time in the series. Hagerstown responded in the bottom of the inning, though. Garcia drove in Freeman with a sacrifice fly and Aldrem Corredor mashed a three-run homer to give the Suns a 4-1 lead.
Charleston scored one run in the second but broke even with Hagerstown in the third. Thompson-Williams drew a one-out walk and Sensley doubled him home to cut the Suns lead to one run. With Sensley on second, Pablo Olivares singled to left to score Sensley and tie the game at 4-4.
The Suns took the lead back for good in the fourth. Branden Boggetto tripled to center and scored when Jake Scudder grounded a ball to second baseman Oswaldo Cabrera. Cabrera threw to home play in an attempt to get Boggetto, but he slid in head-first ahead of the tag to make it a 5-4 Hagerstown lead.
Two more runs plated for the Suns in the fifth against Charleston reliever Dalton Higgins. Garcia singled to right with one out and Antuna walked. Garcia scored when Banks singled to center, and Corredor lifted a sacrifice fly to right to score Antuna to put the Suns up 7-4, eventually winning by the same score.
Stoeckinger (2-3) threw 6.0 innings with four runs on five hits, one walk and two strikeouts. A.J. Bogucki earned his second save of the season after throwing the seventh, getting the side in order.
