Supak and Harber combine on four hit shutout

The Mudcats won their third straight with a series opening victory versus Down East

ZEBULON, N.C. - Jose Cuas had a two-run double in the second, Monte Harrison went 3-for-5 and Trey Supak and Conor Harber teamed on a four hit shutout as the Mudcats defeated the visiting Down East Wood Ducks 5-0 on Monday night at Five County Stadium.

ZEBULON, N.C. - Jose Cuas had a two-run double in the second, Monte Harrison went 3-for-5 and Trey Supak and Conor Harber teamed on a four hit shutout as the Mudcats defeated the visiting Down East Wood Ducks 5-0 on Monday night at Five County Stadium.

The Mudcats (55-51, 19-19) scored first in Monday's series opener after getting two runs in the second before later scoring three more in the seventh. Down East (42-65, 18-20) totaled just four hits in the loss and was held without a hit in six at-bats with runners in scoring position.
Supak (3-3, 4.78) started for Carolina and earned the win after working through five scoreless frames with two hits allowed and four strikeouts. Harber (S, 1) also allowed just two hits and struck out six over four shutout frames and earned his first save of the season.
Brett Martin started for the Wood Ducks and ended up taking the loss despite allowing just one earned run and two total hits over six innings pitched. Martin (1-7, 5.14) struck out seven, walked one and gave up six hits in the loss.
The game was scoreless through one until Cuas drove in two with a double to left-center in the second. His double scored Trent Clark and Luis Aviles Jr. after they had reached on an error and single respectively in the second. Cuas was 1-for-4 in the game with two RBIs.
Carolina led 2-0 through the sixth, but added three runs in the seventh while taking a 5-0 lead. All three seventh inning runs were allowed in by reliever Kelvin Vasquez as he pitched the final two innings of the game for Down East.
Catcher Charlie Meyer started the seventh with a lead off single and was joined on the bases by Corey Ray who followed with a walk. Harrison then drove in Meyer with a single to left and Ray later scored on a sacrifice fly from Jake Gatewood. Harrison later scored on a RBI single by Lucas Erceg and the Mudcats led 5-0 after the seventh.
Meyer was 1-for-3 with a run and a hit in the his Carolina League debut. Harrison was 3-for-5 with a run, a RBI and a highlight reel diving catch in the third.
