Super sixth leads 'Tugas past Marauders, 3-2

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - After being no-hit through 5.1 innings, three consecutive hits and a pair of costly wild pitches helped the Daytona Tortugas sink the Bradenton Marauders, 3-2, in front of 1,229 fans at Jackie Robinson Ballpark on Wednesday night.

Down 2-0, RF Andy Sugilio (1-3, R, 3B, SO) snapped the no-hit bid with a one-out triple into the right-centerfield gap. CF Drew Mount (1-4, R, RBI) followed by breaking up the shutout. The 23-year-old slapped a base-hit into left to drive home a run and pull Daytona (32-27) within a tally, 2-1.
SS José Garcia (1-3, R, 2B, BB, 2 SO) continued his assault on Bradenton (33-25) pitching by lacing a double down the left-field line to put runners at second and third. After a strikeout, 2B Alejo López (1-4, SO) stepped to the dish. On an 0-2 pitch, a toss got away from C Raúl Hernández and to the backstop. Mount crossed the plate to tie the game and Garcia advanced to third with the go-ahead run. 
Immediately after a foul ball, López swung and missed for strike three. However, the pitch caromed off Hernández's shin guard and rolled towards the Tortugas' dugout. Garcia scored and López was safe at first on the dropped third strike wild pitch, giving Daytona a 3-2 lead.
Bradenton snagged the games first two runs with tallies in the fifth and sixth. 3B Jesse Medrano (1-3, R, HR, RBI) broke the scoreless tie in the fifth inning, as he cracked a solo shot - his first of the year - over the left-field fence. An inning later, CF Travis Swaggerty (1-4, R, 2B, SO) doubled into the right-field corner. After advancing on a wild pitch, the former first-round pick scored on a sacrifice fly to left by SS Robbie Glendinning (0-3, RBI).
LHP Wennington Romero (4.2 IP, 3 H, R, ER, 5 SO) was impressive in his season debut. Added to the roster earlier in the day, the 21-year-old struck out five and surrendered only one run in a no-decision.
In his Reds' organizational debut, RHP Diomar López (1.1 IP, H, R, ER, 2 SO) yielded a run but collected the victory in relief. All-Star RHP Ryan Nutof (1.0 IP, 2 SO) worked a perfect ninth inning to garner his league-leading eighth save.
Despite keeping a no-hit bid into the sixth, RHP Aaron Shortridge (7.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 6 SO) gave up a trio of runs in that fateful sixth inning and suffered his second defeat.
Daytona will attempt to earn the series victory in the finale on Thursday. RHP Austin Orewiler (2-5, 3.68 ERA) is projected to take the hill for the Tortugas. Bradenton is expected to counter with RHP Nick Economos (1-2, 1.89 ERA).
