Taveras and Tejeda Homer in Win over Pelicans

KINSTON, NC - The long ball returned for the Wood Ducks (16-16) in a 5-3 victory over the Pelicans (13-19) as Leody Taveras and Anderson Tejeda connected on homers. Edgar Arredondo added five and two-thirds of shutout work on the mound to push the Wood Ducks back to .500.
Josh Altmann also added his third multi-hit game of the season as the Wood Ducks only needed six hits in the win. They were set down 1-2-3 by the Myrtle Beach staff in five of eight innings of offense in the win.

Taveras's blast was his second of the season, and the first hit of the game for the Wood Ducks in the fourth inning. They would add two more runs in the frame on a throwing error and an RBI double from Altmann.
Tejeda went yard with one out in the sixth and matched Altmann's tally of five homers to lead the team. He also collected RBIs 24 and 25, as the Wood Ducks are one of only two teams in the league to feature at three players with at least 20 RBIs.
Meanwhile, Arredondo stranded five runners on base in his first five innings, but exited with the bases loaded and two outs in the sixth. Locke St. John entered with three on for the second straight game, and got Aramis Ademan to strike out to end the frame.
At night's end, lefties are now only 1-for-21 against St. John this season with 14 strikeouts. The eighth inning was a struggle for Jacob Shortslef, as three runs were plated on four hits in the inning. He did collect two more strikeouts to up his total to 18 in 14 and one-third innings.
C.D. Pelham was called for the ninth, and retired the side in order for his fourth save of the year. He now has eight straight scoreless outings, spanning over eight and two-thirds innings.
The DEWDs will look to take the series on Wednesday morning for the last Education Day of the season. Right-hander Jonathan Hernández will start for the Woodies opposite the leftie Bryan Hudson at 11:00 a.m. to close the three-game set.
