Team Effort Leads G-Braves Past Chiefs 6-4

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - The Gwinnett Braves (25-22) got a strong all-around performance to defeat the Syracuse Chiefs (15-29) 6-4 in the second game of their four-game series on Saturday night at Coolray Field.
Four different G-Braves recorded multi-hit games to back a solid pitching performance from Andrew Albers (W, 4-1) and three relievers as the G-Braves earned their second win in a row and fourth in their last five games. 
Getting the start on three days' rest, Albers gave the G-Braves a quality start. He held the Chiefs to three runs on six hits over 6.0 innings, walked one and struck out five in an 82-pitch, 57-strike performance.
Chiefs' starter Kyle McGowin (L, 1-3) gave up the game's first run in the third. Ozzie Albies started the inning with a double to center, and Johan Camargo followed with a single to put runners on the corners. Rehabbing Atlanta Braves' third baseman Adonis García then lifted a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Albies to put Gwinnett in front 1-0.
Syracuse was quick to answer in the fourth as former G-Brave Brandon Snyder doubled and came home on a single from Clint Robinson. In the sixth, Snyder again led off the inning with a double and scored on a double from Ryan Raburn. The Chiefs increased the lead to 3-1 two batters later as Pedro Severino hit a sacrifice fly scoring Raburn.
In the bottom of the sixth, Gwinnett wasted little time in getting the runs back against McGowin. Dustin Peterson was hit by a pitch to start the inning. The next hitter, Carlos Franco , hit a sharp line drive that hit McGowin and rolled to third. Syracuse third baseman Grant Green tried to throw Franco out at first, but his throw was off the mark for an error that allowed Peterson to score all the way from first. After getting hit by the line drive, McGowin threw two wild pitches to David Freitas that allowed Franco to score the tying run. Three batters later, Albies gave Gwinnett a 4-3 lead by lacing a single to center, scoring Freitas.
In the seventh, the G-Braves turned to rehabbing Atlanta reliever Eric O'Flaherty (H, 1). The veteran left-hander got three quick ground balls to retire the Chiefs on just 10 pitches and hold the one-run lead.
Garcia led off the bottom of the seventh with an infield single for the first hit of his rehab assignment. He then stole second, advanced to third on a ground out, and scored on a single from Peterson to give the G-Braves a 5-3 lead after seven.
Wes Parsons (H, 1) came on for Gwinnett in the eighth to make his Coolray Field debut. For the third time, Snyder led off the inning with a hit. After advancing to second on a wild pitch, he scored on a single from Severino as the Chiefs cut the deficit to 5-4. 
Gwinnett got the run right back in the bottom of the eighth. With one out, Lane Adams crushed a pinch-hit triple to center. Camargo then came through with a two-out double to score Adams, capping the night's scoring.
In the ninth, Mauricio Cabrera (S, 3) retired the Chiefs in order to finish the win and earn his third save of the season.
Camargo led the way with three hits and an RBI for Gwinnett, while Albies, Franco, and Xavier Avery all recorded a pair of hits. For the Chiefs, Snyder went 4-for-4 with two doubles and three runs scored in the loss.
In game three of the series on Sunday afternoon, left-hander Sean Newcomb (2-2, 3.09) will start for Gwinnett. Syracuse has yet to officially announce a starter. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. at Coolray Field. Tony Schiavone has the play-by-play call on 97.7 FM The Other Side of the River beginning at 12:35 p.m.
