SPOKANE, Wash. - Sometimes, the story just writes itself. On Thursday afternoon, Spokane Indians first baseman Blaine Crim was named Northwest League MVP. Just a few hours later, Crim was on the receiving end of a Gatorade bath after delivering a walk-off base hit to give Spokane a 2-1 victory over the Everett AquaSox on Halloween Night and Raining Candy presented by Great Clips, 105.7 NOW FM, 103.5 The Game, and Coeur d'Alene Magazine.

TOP PERFORMERS

  • A key to Blaine Crim 's MVP campaign is how clutch he has been all season long. Coming into Thursday, he was hitting .458 with runners in scoring position. With runners at the corners in the bottom of the ninth, Crim came through again. His line drive walk-off put a bow on an incredible day for the Alabama-native.
  • Starling Joseph hit his second homer of the season. He has an RBI in consecutive starts for the second time this month.
  • The Indians pitching staff was fantastic once again. Teodoro Ortega started and went five innings, giving up a run on four hits. Nic Laio pitched 3.1 scoreless innings and struck out five. Josh Smith got out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the ninth.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • This is Spokane's fourth walk-off win of the season after zero such games last year.
  • Jonah McReynolds reached base four times with two hits and two walks. It's his first time reaching base four times since July 26.
  • The Indians won their 43rd game of the season. The last time they won more than 43 games in a season was 2008 when they won 51 games. That also happens to be the last time Spokane won the Northwest League Championship.

KEY MOMENT
In the top of the ninth, Everett loaded the bases with one out. Spokane's defense took over from there. Utah Jones hit a high chopper to third base that Jonah McReynolds leaped to grab and then threw home for a force out. With Cesar Izturis Jr. at the plate, a breaking ball scooted away from catcher Scott Kapers. Trent Tinglestad raced for home from third, but Kapers tossed the ball to Josh Smith covering the plate and his tag beat Tingelstad in a bang-bang play for the final out. Keeping the game tied allowed the Redband Rally to take place in the bottom half.
AROUND THE NWL NORTH DIVISION
Everett's loss eliminates them from winning the second half. However, they are technically alive for the playoffs. Tri-City won a wild one in Vancouver, putting them three games ahead of Everett with four games to play. If Spokane holds on to win the second half, the playoff berth will go to the team with the better second half winning percentage.
