The Grizzlies took a 4-0 lead through the first five innings. In the first, Teoscar Hernández (2-for-4) knocked a two-run double that scored White and Preston Tucker. In the second, White hit a RBI double of his own to score Max Stassi. It was White's second double of the game. A.J. Reed led off the fourth by crushing a solo home run to right, his 12th of the season.
White is on an 11-game hit streak, all of which are multi-hit games. He has 24 multi-hit games this season, one shy of Tony Kemp and Derek Fisher for the club lead. White has raised his overall average from .247 to .310 during the 11 games, and is batting .560 (28-for-50) with 5 home runs, 10 doubles, 19 RBI and 15 runs scored in that span. It is also his second straight game hitting two doubles.
The Chihuahuas cut the Grizzlies' lead to 4-1 in the sixth. Rafael Ortega (2-for-3) hit his fifth home run of the season, a solo shot to right field. It was just the second El Paso hit of the game, with both coming off the bat of Ortega. El Paso ended the contest with just four hits.
Fresno increased their lead to a 6-1 final score in the eighth. Reid Brignac (2-for-4) hit a two-RBI double to right that scored Juan Centeno (single) and Reed (walk).
Grizzlies starter Mike Hauschild (4-1) allowed just one run through six innings for his third quality start of the season. He walked two and struck out eight. The eight strikeouts set a new season-high for him. The club combined for 13 strikeouts on the night, one shy of the season-high. Reliever Kevin Comer picked up his second save of the season with three punch-outs through 1.2 scoreless innings.
Chihuahuas starter Tyrell Jenkins (4-8) suffered the loss allowing four runs on nine hits and three walks. He struck out two through five innings.
The two clubs will play the second game of the series on Sunday at 5:05 p.m. The probable starters for the Father's Day contest are RHP André Rienzo (3-0, 2.43) for El Paso and RHP Casey Coleman (2-3, 5.84) for Fresno.
