EASTLAKE, OH – Colby Thomas belted his 10th home run in High-A, but the Lansing Lugnuts (28-34, 59-68) fell to the host Lake County Captains (31-29, 62-63), 13-1, in a rain-shortened eight-inning Wednesday matinee at Classic Auto Group Park.

The Captains scored three runs in the first, six runs in the second and one unearned run in the third against Lugnuts starter Jacob Watters, putting the game quickly out of reach.

Mac Lardner ate up the next three innings, allowing two runs in the sixth on a Jake Fox home run and a Joe Lampe RBI groundout.

Thomas then led off the seventh inning with a soaring blast out to left-center, ruining Lake County’s shutout bid. The Athletics 2022 third-rounder, playing in his 50th consecutive game upon getting called up in July from Single-A Stockton, has swatted 18 home runs in his first professional season.

Kahlil Watson homered in the eighth inning against Kumar Nambiar to round off the scoring before the game was called due to torrential rain.

In defeat, Lansing first baseman Brennan Milone went 2-for-3 with a double, giving the former Oregon Duck 11 hits in his last 23 at-bats.

Lefty James González starts the third game of the series for Lansing, set for 7 p.m. Thursday night. Lake County will counter with right-hander Aaron Davenport.
