Shorebirds Win Game One of Doubleheader; Game Two Postponed
LYNCHBURG, VA: The Delmarva Shorebirds (10-24) evened the series against the Lynchburg Hillcats (19-16) by winning game one of Thursday's doubleheader 5-2. Game two was postponed due to field conditions.
Lynchburg grabbed the first lead of the game in the bottom of the first as back-to-back hits with two outs by Jaison Chourio and Angel Genao helped the Hillcats get on the board, giving Lynchburg a 1-0 edge.
Aneudis Mordan quickly tied the game in the top of the second as he sent his fourth homer of the season over the wall in left, evening the game at one apiece.
In the third, Mordan drove another run home with an infield single as Aron Estrada touched home on the play, giving Delmarva their first lead at 2-1.
Lynchburg tied the game in the bottom of the third with an RBI single by Chourio to score Christian Knapcyzk, making it 2-2.
Delmarva used the home run ball to get the lead back as Noelberth Romero hit a solo shot to begin the fourth, giving the Shorebirds a 3-2 advantage.
Angel Tejada unleashed his power swing an inning later as he launched a two-run homer over the wall in left to give Delmarva their largest lead at 5-2, Tejada's third hit of the game.
After a nice, four-inning debut for Eccel Correa as the starting pitcher, the bullpen for Delmarva shutdown the Hillcats with Jared Beck tossing two scoreless, followed by a one-two-three final frame for Randy Berigüete sealed a 5-2 win for the Shorebirds.
Jared Beck (2-3) earned the win in relief for Delmarva with Randy Berigüete (1) picking up his first save. Starting pitcher, Jackson Humphries (0-2) was saddled with the loss.
With rain coming down in the bottom of the seventh, the field was unplayable and postponed game two of the doubleheader. As a result, another doubleheader is scheduled to be played on Friday beginning at 3:00 p.m. with game two following 30 minutes after the first game's conclusion.
