CLEARWATER, Fl - The Clearwater Threshers mustered only one hit in a 3-0 shutout loss to Lakeland Flying Tigers on Friday night at BayCare Ballpark.
Left-hander Jordi Martinez made his ninth start of the season on the mound for Clearwater, allowing only one run on three hits while walking three and striking out three in five innings of work.
The Flying Tigers (4-2, 36-36) opened the scoring in the third inning, before tacking on another run on a bases loaded wild pitch from lefty reliever Jared Wetherbee in the seventh to make it 2-0. Lakeland added one more in the eighth on a solo home run by Manuel Sequera.
The Threshers (2-5, 37-35) only hit in the contest came off the bat of outfielder Leandro Pineda, who doubled in the fifth and walked twice.
Following a 46-minute lightning delay in the top of the ninth, left-hander Gabriel Yanez tossed a scoreless top half before the Threshers went in order in the home half, falling 3-0.
Clearwater and Lakeland return to action in game five of the six-game series on Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. Right-hander Jean Cabrera (2-3, 6.11 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Threshers, with coverage on the Threshers Broadcasting Network set to begin at 6:20 p.m.
