CLEARWATER, FL – Jordan Dissin delivered for the second-straight night, smacking a walkoff, two-run single to right with two outs in the tenth as the Clearwater Threshers (18-6) extended their winning streak to ten-straight games in a 3-2 extra-inning victory over the Lakeland Flying Tigers (11-13) on Thursday night at BayCare Ballpark. The Threshers look to clinch their third straight series victory on Friday night in Clearwater against Lakeland.
The Flying Tigers executed a double steal in the second inning to score their first run, with Manuel Sequera swiping home to give Lakeland a 1-0 lead. The game stayed at 1-0 until the fifth inning, when a one-out single by Bryan Rincon began a short rally by Clearwater.
Freylin Minyety singled to right on a hit-and-run play that moved Rincon to third base. Fergus drove in the first run of the game on a single off Lakeland starter Troy Melton to tie the game at one.
Clearwater stranded the winning run on second in the ninth to send the game to extra innings. A sacrifice bunt scored the extra runner in the top of the tenth to give Lakeland a 2-1 lead. Erick Brito led off the bottom of the inning with an infield single to short off Lakeland reliever Cole Patten. Ricardo Rosario advanced Fergus, the extra runner, to third and Brito to second on a sacrifice bunt before Caleb Ricketts was intentionally walked to load the bases. With two outs, Dissin drove a ball into the right-field corner deep enough to score two runs and win the game for the Threshers 3-2.
Alex Rao allowed one run on two hits in 3.0 innings of work, walking two and four strikeouts in a no-decision. Jean Cabrera tossed 3.0 scoreless innings with six strikeouts, one hit and one walk. Jack Dallas shut out the Flying Tigers in 2.0 innings with one walk and three strikeouts.
