Wisconsin (11-11) took the lead in the bottom of the second inning.
Bowling Green (10-13) tied the game in the top of the fifth inning.
Those were the only runs that Wisconsin starting pitcher
Wisconsin added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Bowling Green outhit the Timber Rattlers 8-4, but Wisconsin's defense helped to keep the Hot Rods in check by turning three double plays in the game.
Game two of the series is scheduled for Wednesday night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium.
