TinCaps continue to foil Lugnuts

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Tin… or kryptonite? The Fort Wayne TinCaps (22-39) halted the Lansing Lugnuts' (33-25) four-game winning streak with a 5-4 victory in the series opener of a four-game series on Friday night at Parkview Field.

The 'Caps have defeated the Lugnuts in all four meetings this season, holding the league's best offense to two runs, four runs, four runs and four runs in those games.

Lugs second baseman Bo Bichette was 0-for-3 with two walks, ending his league-leading 17-game hitting streak.

The Lugnuts trailed by deficits of 3-0, 4-2 and 5-3, rallying three times to narrow the TinCaps' lead to one run - but were unable to tie the score.

Fort Wayne starter Ronald Bolaños(Win, 2-1) struck out nine batters in five innings, limiting Lansing to a Christian Williams two-run single in the third inning.

Lugnuts starting pitcher Denis Diaz (Loss, 0-3) allowed four runs on seven hits and three walks in 4 2/3 innings, striking out six batters.

Andrew Deramo entered in relief, pitching 2 1/3 innings and giving up two hits, one run and one walk while striking out three. Connor Eller pitched a scoreless eighth.

In the loss, Edward Olivares swatted his eighth home run of the season.

The second game of the four-game set, scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Saturday, will see the Lugnuts debut of top prospect right-hander Yennsy Diaz , opposed by TinCaps left-hander Logan Allen (3-3, 1.75).
