The SeaWolves suffered their eighth shutout loss of the season on Thursday night, dropping the third game of their series with the Akron RubberDucks 6-0. All six hits for Akron went for extra bases, while Erie could not collect any extra-base hits. Spencer Torkelson collected three hits to match a career high, while Riley Greene extended his hit streak to six games.

The offense made plenty of contact against Akron’s Tanner Tully, but could not muster a key hit. Erie sprayed seven singles in the first six innings, but Tully kept Erie scoreless. Erie looked for an early attack in the first inning with a trio of singles by Riley Greene, Spencer Torkelson, and Dillon Dingler, but all three were left stranded.

Erie went quietly against Akron’s relief arms. Nic Enright spun two scoreless innings, and Kyle Marman struck out two batters in a perfect ninth inning.

Akron took a separate approach with their offense, striking five solo home runs. Jonathan Englemann hit the first of the five in the second inning, while Steven Kwan and Andruw Monasterio went back-to-back in the third inning. Joey Wentz was charged for the first three homers, and took the loss.

Billy Lescher provided some key reprieve for Erie pitching by tossing a pair of scoreless frames, but Akron resumed the home run parade against Gerson Moreno in the seventh inning. Mike Rivera and Will Benson each left the yard to make it a five-run game. Akron eventually collected their first non-home-run hit in the eighth inning when Chris Roller doubled in a run against Moreno. Henry Martinez finished the night for Erie with a perfect ninth inning.

Erie continues their series with Akron on Friday at UPMC Park. Fans will once again get to enjoy postgame Zambeli Fireworks, with the first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
