GREENSBORO- The Asheville Tourists will carry momentum into the second half of the season thanks to a 3-1 victory in the final game of the 2022 season’s first half. Cesar Gomez and Rhett Kouba combined to pitch all nine innings in the victory.
Gomez started for Asheville and retired 13 of the first 14 batters he faced. Cesar’s only blemish was a solo Home Run allowed in the bottom of the fifth. The right-hander finished with five innings pitched, one run allowed, and seven strikeouts.
Kouba tossed the final four innings and did not allow a run. Rhett retired 12 of the 13 batters he faced, including the final nine in row. Kouba and Gomez did not issue a single walk.
Offensively, the Tourists took a 1-0 lead on a pair of second inning doubles from JC Correa and Luis Guerrero. After Greensboro tied the game, Asheville jumped back in front on a Sacrifice Fly by A.J. Lee that scored Guerrero in the seventh inning.
Lee struck again in the top of the ninth in the form of a two-out RBI single to left that plated Kenedy Corona. Asheville outhit Greensboro 8-5 and took a two-games-to-one lead in the series. The second half of the season begins on Friday night with everyone’s record reset.
