ASHEVILLE- The Asheville Tourist tied a single-game season-high with six doubles on Saturday night against the Bowling Green Hot Rods. Kobe Kato hit his team leading 18th and 19th doubles of the season while four other players added a two-bagger. The offense was not quite enough to overcome a big deficit and Asheville lost by a final score of 8-6.
Both teams scored a run in the third inning on a Sacrifice Fly. The Hot Rods plated the game’s next seven runs and built an 8-1 lead. Asheville’s Tim Borden II clubbed a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh to ignite the fans and turn the momentum. Tommy Sacco Jr. later scored on a passed ball.
In the eighth, Michael Sandle and Rolando Espinosa hit back-to-back doubles. Justin Williams followed with a Sacrifice Fly to cut Bowling Green’s lead to two at 8-6. The Tourists had a few chances with the tying run at the plate late; however, the Hot Rods closed out the contest.
Tyler Whitaker reached base four times from the top of the order and Borden II drove in a game-high three runs. Borden II has reached base in ten straight games. Alex Santos II and Nic Swanson combined to pitch all nine innings for Asheville.
The Tourists play their final home game of the season Sunday evening. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:05pm ET.
