Tourists Rally in a Big Way to Win Sixth Straight

ASHEVILLE- The Asheville Tourists added a late come-from-behind victory to their six-game winning streak resume on Friday night when they overcame a four-run deficit to defeat the Greenville Drive 14-7. Asheville plated 11 of their runs over the final two innings after they trailed by as many as four.

Cristian Gonzalez gave the home team an early lead with a leadoff Home Run in the bottom of the first. Michael Sandle scored on a wild pitch and the Tourists led the Drive 2-0 after one. Greenville responded by scoring the game’s next five runs; three in the third and two more in the fourth.

JC Correa hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth to turn the momentum back Asheville’s way; however, the visitors netted two more runs in the top of the seventh. Entering the bottom of the seventh down 7-3, Asheville rallied back to take the lead. Zach Daniels drew a bases loaded walk, Nerio Rodriguez shot a two-run single through the infield, Chad Stevens lined an RBI single into left, and Luis Santana made it 8-7 with an RBI single of his own.

In the bottom of the eighth with the bases loaded and two outs, Correa laced a double up the left field line that plated all three runners. Santana, Gonzalez, and Sandle all followed with RBI hits and the Tourists’ two-out rally resulted in their highest scoring inning of the season.

Ernesto Jaquez, Franny Cobos, and Danny Cody combined to give the Tourists a great effort on the mound. Cobos earned a win in his Asheville debut while Cody notched his first save of the campaign. Will Wagner also contributed to the offensive attack with a pair of hits and a pair of walks drawn. Greenville was held to only eight hits in the contest.

The same two teams will square off in Game Five on Saturday night with the first pitch scheduled for 6:05pm ET.
