HICKORY- The Asheville Tourists came from behind to beat the Hickory Crawdads 6-5 in ten innings on Tuesday night. Asheville erased a three-run deficit entering the seventh inning and Cristian Gonzalez’s RBI double in the top of the tenth proved to be the game winner.
Miguel Palma hit a game-tying two-run double in the top of the eighth with two outs to cap the comeback effort. Michael Sandle chipped in an RBI single in the seventh inning to turn the momentum Asheville’s way.
The Tourists led 1-0 in the top of the first inning when Kenedy Corona tripled and scored on a JC Correa groundout. Hickory countered with three runs in the bottom of the first and added two more in the bottom of the fourth.
Aaron Brown was sensational out of the Tourists bullpen. Brown worked six scoreless innings in relief and allowed only two hits, both singles. Jacob Coats came into the game in the bottom of the tenth with the one-run lead at his back. Coats stranded the automatic runner at second base with a one, two, three shutdown inning and earned his first save of the season.
Palma, Gonzalez, and Quincy Hamilton all finished with two hits. The victory snapped Asheville’s nine-game losing skid and vaulted the team above the Crawdads in the standings.
