Tourists Win in Extras on Education Day
WINSTON-SALEM- The Asheville Tourists defeated the Winston-Salem Dash 6-5 in 11 innings on Tuesday morning. Asheville never trailed thanks to timely hitting and quality pitching throughout the contest. Tyler Whitaker finished with a game-high three RBI and Jeron Williams went 3-for-6 with three runs scored.

Asheville never trailed thanks to timely hitting and quality pitching throughout the contest. Tyler Whitaker finished with a game-high three RBI and Jeron Williams went 3-for-6 with three runs scored.
In the top of the first inning, Asheville’s Whitaker worked a bases-loaded walk to put the visitors in front 1-0. Winston-Salem tied the game on a Sac Fly in the bottom of the first and the score remained tied 1-1 until Whitaker struck with a solo Homer in the top of the sixth.
Franny Cobos was called into action early after the Tourists starting pitcher, Andrew Taylor, was forced to depart in the first. Cobos did not allow a hit in his 3.2 scoreless innings and Edinson Batista came in to pitch the game’s next six innings.
Winston-Salem tied the game with a run in the eighth and both teams plated one in the ninth with Asheville’s coming on a two-out wild pitch. Tied 3-3 heading to extras, Whitaker struck again in the tenth with a two-out RBI double. After the Dash forced another frame, the Tourists scored two in the 11th on Garret Guillemette and John Garcia RBI singles.
Railin Perez recorded the final three outs in the bottom of the 11th for his first save of the year. The Tourists are now 4-2 this season in series openers. Game two of the road-trip is scheduled for 7:00pm ET on Wednesday night.
