NORTH LITTLE ROCK, AR – Arkansas scored eight unanswered runs in the eighth and ninth Sunday afternoon to knock off Corpus Christi, 11-10, in the 2022 finale at Dickey-Stephens Park.
The Travs won five of six in the set, including a pair of walk-off wins.
Ross Adolph and Luke Berryhill hit back-to-back home runs to begin the ballgame as the Hooks engineered a 4-3 lead after two innings of play.
The score held until CC struck for six two-out runs in the seventh to take a 10-3 advantage. Grae Kessinger clubbed his first career grand slam to cap the barrage.
After getting two quick outs to start the eighth, Jojanse Torres allowed a string of six Travs to reach. In the mix was a two-run homer by Tanner Kirwer, an error by Joe Perez and a three-run clout of the bat of Kaden Polcovich.
Bryan Arias, playing in his first career game in center field, nearly made a running catch on the Polcovich home run, but the ball popped out of his mitt and landed into the bullpen as he braced for the five-foot wall.
The Travs then scored two in the ninth on four consecutive singles by Derek West, including a bunt base hit by Kirwer who finished 4-for-5 out of the nine hole. Arkansas plated the winning run when Kessinger dropped a flare in shallow left.
Cesar Gomez was a highlight on the hill for the Hooks as he retired nine of 11 batters faced over three shutout innings of relief. Gomez earned a no-decision in a start Tuesday vs. Arkansas as he held the Travs to one run in 5.2 frames.
