DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Despite trailing for most of the night, 3B Alejo López tied it with a single and LF Stuart Fairchild won it with a sacrifice fly, as the Daytona Tortugas rallied to walk-off the Tampa Tarpons in 10 innings, 5-4, with 3,898 fans in attendance at Jackie Robinson Ballpark on Wednesday night.

After Tampa (7-8, 35-46) grabbed the lead in the top of the 10th on a sacrifice fly by 3B David Metzgar (0-4, RBI, 2 SO), Daytona (7-9, 42-39) began their half of the frame with a bunt single by CF Andy Sugilio (3-5, 2 R).
With runners now at first and third - thanks to the extra-inning tiebreaker rule - López (2-4, R, RBI, BB, 2 SO) slashed a single into left field. RF Drew Mount (1-3, 2 R, BB, SO) scored, as Sugilio chugged to third, knotting the game up at four.
Fairchild (0-3, 2 RBI, 2 SO) followed by lofting a fly ball to shallow center. Sugilio tested the arm of Tampa's CF Estevan Florial and won. The speedy 22-year-old crossed the plate on the sacrifice fly to send the Tortugas home with a 5-4 victory.
Behind 3-2 entering to the bottom of the eighth, Daytona managed to even the contest up. The Tortugas loaded the bases to begin the attack thanks to a walk to Mount, an infield single from Sugilio, and a free pass by López. After a strikeout, 2B Jonathan India (1-3, 2B, RBI, BB) battled and drew a walk to force home a run, tying the contest up at three.
Daytona jumped ahead early in the contest, as well. Sugilio and López began the contest with consecutive singles to place runners at first and third. A sacrifice fly to left by Fairchild enabled the Tortugas to strike first, 1-0. Immediately after a double by India, RHP Jio Orozco (7.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 7 SO) was called for a balk - forcing home another run - to put Daytona up, 2-0.
Using the long ball, Tampa snagged the lead in the third. 2B Deivi Muñoz (2-4, R, SO) commenced the inning with a single and scooted to second on a walk to RF Leonardo Molina (1-2, R, 2 BB, SO). After a strikeout and a flyout, DH Oswaldo Cabrera (1-4, R, HR, 3 RBI, 2 SO) hammered the first pitch he saw down the right-field line for a three-run homer. The clout - his third of the year - put the Tarpons in front, 3-2.
Neither starter factored into the decision on Wednesday. RHP Wendolyn Bautista (6.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB, 9 SO) matched a career-best with nine strikeouts for Daytona, while Orozco (7.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 7 SO) equaled a personal-best with seven innings of work for Tampa.
LHP Andy Cox (2.0 IP, R, BB, SO) did not allow a hit over two frames, garnering his second victory of the season. The Tarpons' RHP Matt Wivinis (1.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, R, 2 SO) surrendered the tying and winning runs in the 10th and was saddled with his second defeat.
Daytona will kickstart an eight-game road trip on Thursday, as the squad opens up a four-game series against the St. Lucie Mets, the High-A affiliate of the New York Mets. LHP Wennington Romero (1-1, 4.43 ERA) is expected to take the hill in the lid-lifter for the 'Tugas. St. Lucie is scheduled to counter with RHP Kyle Wilson (5-9, 3.81 ERA).
The Tortugas Pre-Game Show will kick off the broadcast at 6:15 p.m. ET, leading up to the 6:30 p.m. ET start at First Data Field. Thursday evening's game can be heard on www.daytonatortugas.com or via the TuneIn Radio and MiLB First Pitch apps.
