Rancho Cucamonga, CA – The Quakes earned their first consecutive wins in more than a month, as they prevailed over San Jose on Saturday night at LoanMart Field, 5-3.
Josue De Paula’s second hit knocked in the tie-breaking run in the seventh, while Rancho’s bullpen shined for a second straight night, combining for four scoreless frames.
Tied at 3-3 in the seventh, Jose Izarra tripled to open the inning against Giants’ reliever Tyler Vogel (5-7). De Paula followed with an RBI hit, giving the Quakes the lead for good at 4-3.
Jordan Thompson’s sac fly in the eighth gave the Quakes some breathing room at 5-3.
In the ninth, Kelvin Ramirez, fresh off a 1-2-3 eighth, walked a one-out batter, but got a double-play ball out of Turner Hill, as the Quakes turned two to end the game, giving Ramirez his second save of the year.
Sauryn Lao (3-0) pitched two scoreless frames and was credited with the win.
Rancho overcame four errors on Saturday night, as Quakes’ starter Christian Romero pitched well over five innings, allowing just one earned run, but left with the game tied at 3-3.
The Quakes (14-15, 53-42) will look for a series-win on Sunday at 5pm, sending Jared Karros (2-2) to the hill against San Jose’s Manuel Mercedes (2-4) in the finale.
