O'Neill, Powell break out at plate for Rainiers

Tyler O'Neill's average dipped to its lowest point of the season after a loss Sunday, so the Triple-A Tacoma slugger responded with his best night of the year.
The Mariners' No. 2 prospect homered and doubled twice for his first three-hit night in the Pacific League and No. 24 Boog Powell chipped in four hits, including two doubles, but the Rainiers fell to the Albuquerque Isotopes, 12-8, on Monday night.

O'Neill put up a pair of two-hit games through his first seven contests this year, but the native of western Canada had gone 5-for-41 (.122) over his last 10 games to drop his slash line to .179/.233/.328. After walking in the first inning against the Isotopes, O'Neill bashed a solo homer to right field in the third.

The left fielder laced a double to left with one out in the fifth and followed with an RBI double to left with one out in the sixth.

Fellow outfielder Powell is also heating up at the plate. He doubled to center in the fourth and singled to right leading off the sixth. The Irvine, California native began the eighth with another double to center and poked an RBI single to right in the ninth.

Monday's showing was Powell's first game of the season with more than two hits and extended his hitting streak to five games. That followed a 4-for-26 (.154) start through the first eight games of 2017.
