Binghamton Rumble Ponies outfielder Jhoan Urena has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of August 27th-September 3rd. The 24-year old batted .424 (14-for-33) with one double, four home runs, 14 RBIs, six runs scored, two walks, and a .818 slugging percentage in eight games last week. Urena, who is a native of Santiago, Dominican Republic, had at least one hit in seven of the eight games he played in last week and had multiple hits in three of those games. The switch hitter kicked off his week in "grand" fashion by hitting three home runs, including two grand slams, one from each side of the plate, while driving in a franchise record nine runs in Binghamton's 12-2 win at Hartford on August 27th. He added his first career five-hit game in a 7-6 win over visiting Portland on Saturday night. The 6'1", 225 lb. slugger led all Eastern League hitters in homers (4) and RBIs (14) last week. He also finished ranked among the weekly leaders in total bases (27-2nd), slugging percentage (.818-2nd), hits (14-tied 2nd), OPS (1.275-4th), extra-base hits (5-tied 6th), and batting average (.424-7th). Jhoan, who hit .261 with 14 homers and 63 RBIs in 123 games for the Rumble Ponies this season, was signed by the New York Mets as an international free agent on March 1, 2012.

Tyler Viza, a right-handed starting pitcher for the Reading Fightin Phils, has been selected as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of August 27th-September 3rd. The 6'3", 170 lb. hurler started a pair of games for the Fightin Phils last week and had a record of 1-1 with 16 strikeouts and a 0.60 ERA. Viza, who is a native of Phoenix, Arizona, made his first start of the week on August 27th at Binghamton and threw seven shutout innings in Reading's 7-0 victory. He scattered three hits and struck out 11 batters without allowing a walk to earn the win. Viza made his second start of the week on Saturday night at Trenton and pitched a complete game in a 3-0 loss. He gave up three runs, one earned, on five hits while striking out five batters and walking one over eight innings of work. The 23-year old led all Eastern League pitchers in strikeouts (16) and innings pitched (15.0) last week and tied for the lead in complete games (1). He also finished ranked among the weekly leaders in WHIP (0.60-3rd), batting average against (.157-3rd), ERA (0.60-5th), and wins (1-tied 5th). Tyler, who had a record of 3-5 with a 2.75 ERA in 19 appearances, 11 starts, with Reading this season, was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 32nd round of the 2013 draft out of Desert Vista High School in Arizona.
