TROY - The Tri-City ValleyCats suffered a series opening loss at the hands of the Hudson Valley Renegades, by a final of 6-5. Andrew Gist (2-0) picked up the win in relief of starter Resly Linares, while Brandon Bielak (1-1) took the loss in relief of starter J.B. Bukauskas.

The 'Cats offense got off to a roaring start, thanks to Bryan De La Cruz and J.J. Matijevic each reaching in the first inning, before being driven in by Gabriel Bracamonte on a two run single to make it 2-0. However, the Renegades answered in a big way in the fourth inning, scoring four runs.
Rafelin Lorenzo picked up the first run for the Renegades on an RBI single to make it 2-1. After loading the bases once again, Matt Eureste was hit by a pitch by Ben Smith and added another run to tie the game. Deion Tansel was able to record two more on an RBI double, and take a 4-2 lead.
In the fifth inning, J.J. Matijevic was able to each reach on an error by pitcher Resly Linares, allowing Kyle Davis to score from third to make it 4-3. Jonathan Arauz aided the rally with an RBI single of his own to make it 4-4. However, the Renegades took it back in the seventh inning, thanks another RBI single by Rafelin Lorenzo to make it 5-4.
One last effort was made by Gabriel Bracamonte, whose RBI double tied the game in the seventh inning. However, a misplay in center field by Andy Pineda allowed a run to score for the Renegades, where they secured the win.
Despite the loss, the 'Cats got a lot of help from Corbin Martin, who was strong out of the bullpen. Martin allowed one run in three and a third innings, while striking out four. ValleyCats pitching recorded 12 strikeouts in the loss.
The 'Cats will play game two against the Renegades on Thursday at 7:00 pm. It is Beach Party/Healthy Living Night at the Joe, presented by Adirondack Oral Surgery! You can purchase your tickets at tcvalleycats.com/tickets.
