Hillsboro, OR (June 24, 2022) – The biggest crowd of the season at Ron Tonkin Field (4,504) saw an early fireworks show on Star Wars Night, with a combined eight extra-base hits on Friday. The Canadians’ had six of them, with four doubles and a pair of home runs from Garrett Spain. Spain, who came into the game with one home run in 121 at-bats this season, had his first professional two-homer game in the 5-3 Vancouver win.

Both starting pitchers breezed through three innings. Hillsboro got their first hit and first run in the fourth inning on a Tristin English double.

Vancouver immediately answered in the fifth, when Garrett Spain homered on the first pitch he saw from Scott Randall.

Canadians’ starter Ricky Tiedemann, who is one of the top pitching prospects in the league and an MLB top 100 player, came into the game with a 0.38 ERA. Tiedemann would exit the game in the fifth, after Channy Ortiz had an RBI-single to give the Hops a 2-1 lead. Garrett Farmer came in and got an inning-ending double play, keeping the score 2-1.

Tiedemann finished 4.1 innings, allowing four hits, two earned runs and six strikeouts. The four hits by Hillsboro were the most Tiedemann has allowed in a game this season.

Scott Randall turned in one of his best outings of the year, going 5.2 innings, allowing four hits, one earned run and seven strikeouts.

Vancouver broke the game open in the seventh against Gerald Ogando, as Addison Barger once again picked up a two-out, go-ahead hit. Barger doubled off the batter’s eye, scoring two runs and extended his hit-streak to 11 games. Steward Berroa also picked up a two-out extra-base hit, as the Canadians took a 4-2 lead.

Garrett Spain hit his second home run of the game off Jose Santamaria, a deep blast to left that went 415 feet. The insurance run gave Vancouver a 5-2 lead going to the ninth.

Hillsboro loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth, with walks by Castillo, Muntz and Ortiz. Caleb Roberts got a run in with a sac fly, but Vukovich popped out to end the game.

Both teams were 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position, as Vancouver left nine runners on base and the Hops left eight. Garrett Farmer recorded the win, after 3.2 solid innings allowing just two hits and no runs.

Hillsboro (29-36) and the Vancouver Canadians (31-33) will play game five on Saturday at 7:05, with the pre-game show at 6:50 on Rip City Radio 620 and MiLB.tv.
